Does It Lay Eggs? Classifying Animals Game
Get ready to kick off your next science unit or mini-lesson on animal classification and grouping with an engaging Classifying Animals Game for early learners. This engaging, hands-on sorting game is designed to help your little ones learn more about oviparous (egg-laying) and viviparous (non-egg-laying) animals in the world around them.
In this Classifying Animals Game, your students will review their knowledge of animal characteristics and life cycles to determine which animals lay eggs and which do not.
Using This Animal Classification Activity
Setting up and using this Animal Classification Activity is a breeze! To prep and play:
- Print the sorting mats (Animals That Lay Eggs/Do Not Lay Eggs)
- Print the animal cards and cut them apart.
- Place the materials in a basket, bag, or science station
- Students will lay out the two sorting mats side by side and place the animal cards face down on the table.
- Taking turns, each student will choose a card and look at the animal on it.
- Identify whether the animal lays eggs or not,
- Sort the animal into the correct group.
An answer key is provided for students to self-check their answers.
Through this activity, students will sort, group, and classify animals, while also learning a bit about the life cycles of animals in the natural world.
