A Set of Fast Finisher Activities for Year 4 Maths

In every class, there’s always that one student (or more than one student!) looking for something else to do. That’s where Teach Starter’s fast finisher task cards can help!

This set of 32 fast finisher task cards is designed to keep Year 4 students actively engaged in meaningful maths practice while encouraging critical and creative thinking. Covering essential topics like number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability, these open-ended challenges are perfect for consolidating learning and encouraging mathematical exploration beyond standard exercises.

Here is an example task focusing on number sense:

Pick a number between 10 000 and 99 000. Make a poster to show all you can about this number. You can draw pictures, write words or create equations about your number.

Ways to Use These Year 4 Maths Fast Finisher Activities

While these maths task cards are perfect for your early finishers, they can also be used in other ways to complement your numeracy lessons. Here are a few ideas for you to consider:

  • Lesson Warm-Ups – Use selected task cards as discussion starters to spark interest and mathematical conversations when introducing a new topic. You’ll find a variety of content from the Year 4 curriculum is covered in this set of questions.
  • Maths Rotations – Integrate these cards into your maths group activities. This provides a great opportunity for students to collaborate by discussing multiple approaches to the same question.
  • Homework Extension – These cards are a great option if you have students keen to do some extra work at home. Assign a card or two to eager students and have them work on them at home each week.
