Use this set of 4 Grade 5 worksheets to help students practise interpreting real-life data represented as a line graph.

Teaching How Line Graphs Represent Change Over Time

As teachers, we know that line graphs are an excellent visual method of showing how measurements change over a period of time, and we’re aware of the inferences that can be made from viewing such data displayed in this way.

When teaching Grade 5 students about interpreting line graphs, it is important to connect the material to real-life examples which they can relate to, which is why this activity requires students to interpret graphs based on weather measurements!

This set of four line graph worksheets includes an answer key to make marking a breeze. Consider using these worksheets as an assessment tool at the end of your unit on line graphs, to gauge student understanding.

This Line Graph Worksheet Set Includes:

  • 4 worksheets
  • 4 answer sheets

Through this activity, students will interpret line graphs representing change over time, and discuss the relationships that are represented and conclusions that can be made. This activity will have students reading line graphs that show the varying temperatures or weather conditions and draw conclusions on the best time to hold annual school events based on suitability.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

Our team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your data and graph lesson!

Support All Students’ Levels Through Differentiation

There are 3 levels of questions for each line graph worksheet.

  • Each sheet begins with questions that are literal questions that require students to practise the skill of reading the line graph.
  • The next set of questions require a higher level of reading, students are required to gather multiple pieces of data from the one line graph to draw conclusions.
  • The final two questions are inferential questions, these require multiple pieces of data from the one line graph as well as real-life knowledge to make the inference.

Easily Prepare Your Line Graphs Worksheets

Our worksheets are designed for ease-of-use. Simply print (you can choose 1- or 2-sided) and distribute. Alternatively, use the Google Slides version to distribute electronically via your class’s teaching delivery system.
