Looking for Decimal Place Value Worksheets?

So your students have mastered traditional place value concepts… now what? If your students have a good handle on identifying the place value of a digit, they are probably ready to understand different patterns that occur within numbers. Once students enter upper primary, they start to learn about how a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. Teach Starter has a handy maths worksheet for your students to practise this skill!

With this worksheet, students will review and become familiar with moving from place value to place value within a number and recognising patterns. Students will practise moving decimal points to make a number larger or smaller. The goal is for students to understand when the decimal point moves to the left, the number decreases. When the decimal point is moved to the right, the number increases.

An answer key is included with your download to make marking fast and easy!

Differentiate This Place Value Worksheet

Are you looking for some quick and easy tips to help you support and extend your students while using this worksheet during your lessons on decimal place value? Here are some suggestions from our experienced teacher team:

  • Extend your more-capable students by challenging them to include the number that would be 100 times greater than the original decimal and 1/100 of the original decimal when completing the table at the top of the worksheet.
  • Support students by providing them with access to a decimal place value chart so they can see how each place increases or decreases by 10. Additionally, this worksheet can be completed in a 1-on-1 setting or with a small group of students.
