Combine fun and learning with these 2D shapes and symmetry task cards for your Grade Four students!

Shape and Symmetry Investigation Cards = Ultimate Geometry Fun!

Are you looking for an engaging and interactive way to teach your students about shapes and symmetry? Look no further! Our Shape and Symmetry Task Cards are the perfect teaching resource to help your students master these fundamental maths concepts while having a blast. These task cards are designed to make learning fun and accessible for both students and teachers.

To take part in this task, students grab a recording sheet and a pencil to get started.

They then shuffle the task cards and pick a random one to work on.

Each task card presents a unique challenge related to shapes and symmetry. Students use their prior knowledge to answer the questions provided. If the cards are laminated, simply use a whiteboard marker to write in their answers, making it easy to correct and reuse.

After solving the task card, students record the information about the shape they just worked on onto their recording sheet for marking. An answer key is provided for easy marking!

Once they’ve completed the recording, they set the card aside, and choose a new one to tackle. Students continue until they’ve completed each of the various shapes included in the pack.

Preparation is Key: How to Set Up Your Symmetry Lesson

Cut out each task card, ensuring they are neat and ready for use (teacher tip: use a paper slicer for efficiency and accuracy, if you have access to one!)

Laminate each task card to extend their lifespan and make them easy to clean after use.

Provide your students with whiteboard markers and a suitable eraser or cloth for wiping down the laminated cards. This ensures that the cards stay in pristine condition and are ready for the next learning session.

Curriculum Connections

These cards are aligned with curriculum standards and designed to reinforce your students’ understanding of shapes and symmetry in an enjoyable way.

By completing this task, students will evidence their ability to recognise a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional shape and identify line-symmetric figures and shapes.

By incorporating these task cards into your teaching toolkit, you’ll promote active engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in your students. Watch as their confidence in geometry grows, and they develop a solid foundation for more advanced maths concepts.
