Bring your motion and science inquiry stations to life with a hands-on science sorting activity designed to help young learners build their knowledge of motion, matter, and scientific inquiry skills! 

This Foundation and Year 1 science sorting activity introduces students to the various ways objects can move, such as rolling, bouncing, stretching, twisting, sliding, spinning, and more. With colourful picture cards and simple category prompts, students will explore, sort, question, and categorise movement in an engaging and interactive way.

How Things Move Activity Pack

This ‘How Things Move’ Activity Pack includes nine category cards, each featuring a different type of movement. For example, bounce, roll, slide, stretch, spin, walk, run, twist, jump, and crush. To complete this open-ended activity, students will sort 48 picture cards into the categories, using their prior knowledge and scientific categorisation skills to determine how each object moves.

To extend the How Things Move Activity Pack, we’ve also included writing and drawing worksheets, allowing students to record their thoughts by illustrating or describing how different things move.
