Measure, record and graph weather information with a printable mini-book.

✍🏼 Use Our Mini-Book Template to Record Weather Observations!

Learning about the weather is something that students do from an early age. They learn to identify types of weather, such as if it is sunny, snowy, rainy, etc. As students get older, they begin to learn different ways to talk about the weather. With this mini-book, your students will have the opportunity to practise their measurement and observational skills to track the weather over a period of time.

To complete this activity, students will use the mini-book over 5 days. Students will use their observational skills and weather tools to record the following:

  • temperature
  • wind direction
  • amount of precipitation
  • pictorial representation of the weather.

Once students have completed their weather observations, students will chart the temperature on the first page of the mini-book.

Through this activity, students will measure, record and graph weather information. Students will observe different factors, including temperature, wind conditions, precipitation and cloud coverage, to identify data patterns.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your science lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this weather mini-book to enhance learning through guided science groups, whole class lessons or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by limiting what types of observations to make. For example, some students may only record the temperature and weather conditions that they see.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to research the weather in a different location and complete a mini-book for that place. Students can then compare the weather conditions of the two locations.
