Provide the students with their own copy of the worksheet. (Note: There are two versions of the worksheet; one of which is a more scaffolded version.) Ask the students to draw and label the features of an ant using the key vocabulary provided. Monitor and support the students as they complete this task.
Watch and sing along to The Ants Go Marching song on YouTube. After watching, encourage the students to suggest which external features the cartoon ants are missing, and how they might be drawn more accurately.
Encourage more capable students to add additional details to their ant drawings.
Support less confident students by providing them with a scaffolded version of the worksheet (available within the resource).
