Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Relief Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarize yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Reading Comprehension
Distribute a copy of the Making Inferences – Comprehension Task to the students. Read the text as a class. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the comprehension questions. Once the students have finished, discuss the answers as a class.
Literacy – Writing Task
As a class, discuss the features of an invitation and brainstorm a list of events you could be invited to. Using some of the ideas suggested by the class, ask the students to independently design and write an invitation of their choice. Once they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their invitations with the class.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
Distribute a copy of the Factor Tree Worksheet. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the worksheet. Once the students have finished, correct the answers as a class.
Numeracy – Shape
Provide each student with a tangram template from the Tangram Poster and Template. Give the students a suitable amount of time to cut out the regular shapes from the template. Allow the students to use these shapes to create a variety of two-dimensional shapes that represent an everyday object or animal. After making a number of different shapes with the tangrams, allow the students to choose a final two-dimensional shape to paste into their books and color. Encourage volunteers to share their tangrams with the class.
Literacy – Independent or Shared Reading
Allow the students to independently read an appropriate book of their choice. Alternatively, choose a book to read and share with the students.
Design and Technologies – Plan and Create
Provide each student with a Blank Game Board – Ocean Adventure template. Students use the blank template to design and make their own board game. When finished, students can play each other’s board games in small groups.
