This rhyming card game is perfect for exploring rhyming words in the classroom. Students engage in a fun, concentration-style game where they match pairs of rhyming words. The player who collects the most pairs by the end of the game is the winner! Use this teaching resource when studying rhyming words in your classroom.

Students play a concentration-style game and find pairs of rhyming words. The player with the most pairs at the end of the game wins!

Different Types of Rhyming Card Games

While this classic concentration-style game is a favorite, there are several variations you can try to keep students engaged.

  • Memory Match – Players flip two cards at a time, trying to find rhyming pairs. If they match, they keep the cards and take another turn.
  • Rhyming Snap – Cards are dealt face down in a pile. Players flip cards one by one, and when two rhyming words appear, the first to shout “Snap!” wins the pile.
  • Go Fish (Rhyming Edition) – Players ask each other for rhyming pairs (e.g., “Do you have a card that rhymes with cat?”). If the opponent has it, they hand it over; if not, the player draws from the pile.
