Practice identifying 3D objects with a code-based coloring task!

Match the Object to Colour the Picture

Like many other mathematical concepts, students first learn about the concept of a three-dimensional shape through their interactions with everyday environments. While this informal knowledge is a vital stepping stone in becoming more familiar with the concept of a 3D shape, there comes a point where students must learn the mathematical names of these common shapes.

This worksheet has been designed to provide your students with practice identifying various 3D shapes. Students are required to color the 3D shapes in the picture provided and record how many there are of each.

The 3D shapes included in this worksheet are:

  • Cone
  • Rectangular prism
  • Cube
  • Sphere
  • Cylinder
  • Pyramid

Differentiate This 3D Shapes Worksheet

This resource looks deceptively simple at first glance… but why not shake things up a little?

Challenge your more capable students by having them label the 3D shapes used in each picture. You could also ask them to create a picture of their own using a specified group of 3D shapes.

Support your less-confident students by allowing them to access support materials such as our 3D shapes poster set while completing the worksheet.

This versatile resource can be used in various ways in your classroom. Here are some suggestions for how you might like to use this activity:

  • Whole-class activity (via smartboard)
  • Independent practice
  • Homework assignment
  • Summative assessment
