Teach the embedded clause with these engaging and easy-to-use worksheets designed to build understanding through clear examples and guided practice.
Teach the Embedded Clause in a Sentence
An embedded clause is a type of dependent (subordinate) clause that adds extra information to a sentence. These clauses often appear in the middle of a sentence to give more detail about a noun. Understanding how to identify and use embedded clauses helps students write more complex and descriptive sentences.
Here’s an example:
The teacher, who loved reading, shared her favorite book with the class.
In the sentence above, the embedded clause “who loved reading” gives more information about the teacher.
This set of nine activity worksheets has been designed by our team to make learning about embedded clauses clear and engaging for students. Each worksheet contains a different activity to help students identify and apply embedded clauses. Some of these include:
- Spot the Embedded Clause
- Add an Embedded Clause
- Match the Sentence Parts
- Error Detectives
- Who/Which/That Challenge
- And many more!
This resource downloads as a black-and-white PDF or editable Google Slides file. The download also includes an answer key to make grading the worksheets fast and easy.
Whether used as part of a grammar lesson, a writing warm-up or independent literacy practice, these worksheets make sentence building both accessible and enjoyable.
