End of Year Project – Design Your Own Summer Camp STEM Activity

This Summer Camp Design Project is a fun way for your students to find out about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).

In this project, students will design their own summer camp and advertise it to visitors. Students will use their creativity, analytical skills and imagination to complete different tasks in order to develop their summer camp. The project provides opportunities for students to:

  • Design a logo, motto and mascot.
  • Brainstorm ideas for your camp.
  • Plan a daily schedule of activities and meals.
  • Design the camp map, including a map key.
  • Advertise your summer camp by creating a tri-fold brochure.
  • Reflect on your summer camp and the design process.

This STEM-based project is designed to be fun and engaging so that students will become more interested in creating and designing. The final goal is a creative and thoughtful display which can be shared with other students, families, and visitors.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Science lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this STEM project  to enhance learning through partner projects, whole class discussions, or remote learning opportunities.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Assist students with learning challenges by participating in brainstorming and listing conversations with them. Discuss the different features and how those features might contribute to their overall design idea.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Encourage fast finishers to create a large-scale depiction of their campground, write a newspaper ad, or create a slide show advertising their location.
