Kick Off Your Phonics Instruction with Football Vowel Teams

Just when your students thought they were done learning their vowels… 😉

It’s time to introduce them to the concept of vowel teams!

In this activity, students will practice a phonological awareness strategy to decode words by applying the sound made by the vowel teams OA, OW, EA, EE, AI, and AY.

Through this activity, students will build phonological awareness by distinguishing between the vowel combinations found in individual words and sort those words into categories.

Identify Words with Vowel Teams with Ease!

This grouping of vowel team worksheets is designed for your students to practice spelling using vowel teams in a fun football-themed cut and sort activity. Students will cut out a series of images, say the word, then place that image on its appropriate vowel “team”.

An answer key is included so that students can self-check their matches.
