These silly fill-in-the-blank Halloween Mad Libs are the perfect way to celebrate the spooky season while sneaking in practice with parts of speech and sentence structure. Students will love creating wild, unpredictable stories, and you’ll love that they’re reinforcing grammar skills at the same time!

Differentiated Halloween Mad Libs Printable Worksheets

This Halloween Mad Libs printable resource has three original stories designed for elementary students working at different reading levels. Each worksheet includes clear prompts for nouns, verbs, plurals, and more, making it easy for kids to review grammar terms as they play.

To use these Halloween Mad Lib Worksheets, simply

  1. Make copies of the worksheet you prefer.
  2. Cut the answer strip off the top of the worksheet and give this piece to students. Keep the lower half of the worksheet.
  3. Have students fill in the answer strip with the word or words required before giving them the lower half of the mad lib worksheet.
  4. Give each student the lower half of the worksheet and have them transfer their answers (in number order) onto the lines in the passage.
  5. Finally, have students read their silly story to the class or a friend.

Whether you call them Halloween madlibs or fill-in-the-blank silly stories, these worksheets are versatile enough for any classroom setting. Use them as a homework activity, as a writing center activity, or even as a fun Friday brain break. They’re engaging, quick to prep, and guaranteed to get your whole class giggling.
