Learning About Safe and Unsafe Situations

This set of task cards has been created to extend your students’ knowledge of safe and unsafe situations. By openly discussing safe and unsafe situations with young children, you encourage them to feel more comfortable talking to trusted adults when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

These task cards include images of particular situations and have students decide if they are safe or unsafe. Examples include:

  • Wearing sunscreen
  • Using a crossing
  • Talking to a doctor
  • Planting flowers
  • Broken jar

What To Do if You Feel Unsafe?

Once students have identified the unsafe situations in these task cards, this provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss with your class what they should do if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Talk about their circle of trusted adults and who they might go to in each of these situations.

As an extra activity for this, you can have your students complete a My Safety Plan worksheet.
