Are your students learning about different US holidays? While they may be learning about Independence Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and many more, Memorial Day is also an important holiday to teach. Teach Starter has you covered this year as you teach your students the importance of Memorial Day.

With this resource, students will learn that this special day is a recognized national holiday, when it is celebrated, why it is celebrated, and common activities associated with Memorial Day. 

Through this activity, students will understand that holidays are celebrations of special events. Students will be able to explain the importance of Memorial Day and why it is celebrated.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding 

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your social studies lessons. 

In addition to individual student work time, use this holiday-themed mini-book to enhance learning through guided social studies groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments. 

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts: 

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need support understanding the concepts by completing the book in a 1-on-1 environment or with a small group. Additionally, students can reference previous classwork, posters, or anchor charts when completing this activity.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For fast finishers, encourage students to draw a picture of themselves celebrating Memorial Day on the back of their mini-book.
