A Perimeter Maze for Composite Shapes

If you’re looking for an engaging and interactive way for your students to reinforce their understanding of perimeter, then this is the resource for you! This perimeter maze requires students to calculate the perimeter of composite shapes in order to find their way through the maze.

Students start at the “Start Here” box. They encounter different shapes within the maze, each with its own unique perimeter. Their task is to calculate the perimeter of each shape and then choose the correct path that leads them to the maze’s exit. It’s an adventure filled with math!

This resource can be downloaded as an easy-print PDF or as an editable Google Slides file. An answer key is also included in the download to make grading fast and easy!

Watch your students’ motivation levels skyrocket as they calculate the perimeters to find their way out of the maze!

Multiple Uses for This Perimeter Maze

This versatile perimeter maze can be used in many different ways in your classroom. Check out some suggestions from our experienced teacher team:

  1. Math Centers: Set up a math center with printed mazes and let students work in pairs or individually. For sustainability purposes, place the mazes inside dry erase sleeves so that the page can be wiped clean and reused.
  2. Partner Challenges – Place your students in like-ability pairs. Have the students race each other to complete the mazes as quickly as possible while accurately calculating the perimeters of the composite shapes.
  3. Interactive Whiteboard Fun – Project the perimeter maze on an interactive whiteboard for whole-class participation. Students can take turns solving the perimeter problems and choosing the right path.
