Native American Tribes of Texas – Vocabulary Words

Are you ready to teach your 4th-grade Texas history students about Native Americans in Texas? With this grouping of vocabulary cards and other Teach Starter resources, you can be confident in your content knowledge without spending much time prepping!

Teach Texas Native Americans Standards with Ease

Use these printable Native American tribe word wall cards to help your students learn about the many Native American tribes that settled in Texas. The following Texas standards are the focus of this group of resources.

4.1 History. The student understands the origins, similarities, and differences of American Indian groups in Texas before European exploration. The student is expected to:

-(A) explain the possible origins of Native American groups in Texas;

-(B) identify and compare the ways of life of Native American  groups in Texas before European exploration, such as the Lipan Apache, Karankawa, Caddo, and Jumano;

-(C) describe the cultural regions in which Native Americans lived, such as Gulf, Plains, Puebloan, and Southeastern; and

-(D) locate Native American groups remaining in Texas, such as the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, Alabama-Coushatta, and Kickapoo.
