Will Light Pass Through It? Light Investigation for Early Learners

Help young scientists explore how light behaves when it meets different materials with the Will Light Pass Through It? Investigation Pack. Through observation, prediction, testing, and design challenges, this ‘Will Light Pass Through It?’ Investigation Pack encourages kindergarten students to build their understanding of transparent, translucent, and opaque materials.

As students investigate whether all, some, or no light can pass through everyday objects, they develop foundational science inquiry skills while making real-world connections to how materials are used.

Explore Light Interactions With Different Materials

Introduce your learners to light interactions with different materials using a set of three engaging worksheets designed for kindergarten science lessons. We have ensured that the language in this activity has been simplified, so the terms opaque, translucent, and transparent have not been used. If you would prefer to use those, download the editable version and modify before printing.

Included in this download:

  • Prediction worksheet about light passing through materials
  • Investigation worksheet for testing six different objects
  • Design-a-window activity for a model house challenge
