Teach your students flower and candle breathing as a brain break, stress management strategy or mindfulness activity.

What Is Flower and Candle Breathing?

Have you heard of the mindful breathing technique involving flower breathing and candle breathing? Here is a brief description of how it works:

  • Flower Breathing – Imagine inhaling the sweet fragrance of a flower. As children breathe in, they inhale through their nose, filling their lungs with fresh, calming air.
  • Candle Breathing – Picture a flickering candle flame. With each exhale, children envision blowing out the candle slowly and gently.

In this engaging mindful breathing video, children will practice the art of mindful breathing through the techniques of flower breathing and candle breathing. To help this technique come to life for the students, our video displays a flower when it is time for the students to breathe in deeply, and a candle when it is time to exhale gently. The process is repeated over a 5-minute period, helping your students achieve a state of calm relaxation.
