Finding new and fresh ways to engage and interact with your students on their level can be exhausting. It’s particularly hard in the ever-changing digital world in which we live. One idea that is gaining popularity, particularly in the teaching Instagram community, is the use of Bitomiji in the classroom. For those that aren’t aware of what Bitmoji is, it’s basically your own personal emoji placed in different circumstances with different facial expressions!

Your students will get an absolute kick out of seeing your Bitmoji pop up here and there around the classroom!

The best part? You can use your personal Bitmoji in a variety of ways, both in person or virtually.

How to Make a Bitmoji

I know a number of you are thinking – how on earth do I create a Bitmoji of myself. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to easily make a Bitmoji.

  1. Download the Bitmoji app onto your phone (it’s a green icon with a white winking chat bubble).
  2. Once you have downloaded the app it’s time to create your own Bitmoji.
  3. Design your Bitmoji character by picking between a huge variety of skin tones, eye shapes, hair colour, jaw shape, accessories such as glasses and outfit!
  4. Make sure you save your avatar once you are happy.

Ways to Use Bitmoji in the Classroom

Once you have downloaded the app and created your Bitmoji – the fun can start!

You can search for a variety of keyword phrases in the Bitmoji app to get the desired image of your Bitmoji. Once you have an image that suits what you are using it for, simply click the image for the variety of ways you can save/copy and share that Bitmoji image.  The easiest way to do this is to save the image to your phone and then email the images to yourself. This will allow you to use the images in a variety of ways on a desktop.

Here are some fun ideas you may like to start with:

I used a variety of bitmojis to spark up my home learning packs and letters I created last Term. My year 5s thought it was pretty cool and like to see what new 'pose' I come up with each week. They are a simple and fun way to have fun with the students.
