Identifying Author’s Purpose Task Cards for Middle Primary

Identifying author’s purpose is an important reading comprehension strategy that encourages students to think beyond the words on the page. Rather than focusing only on what a text says, students learn to consider why the author wrote it. Was the author trying to inform, persuade or entertain? The clues are often right there in the text!

This resource has been designed by our team to provide your students with practice in identifying author’s purpose in simple texts. It includes:

• Five reading passages with accompanying questions
• An extension task based on the passage
