‘School’ Your Students With Our Counting On Game

Add a little classroom charm to your maths stations with our ‘Counting On Game,’ a printable board game designed to help students strengthen their addition skills using the ‘counting on’ strategy!

With a cheerful schoolhouse theme featuring backpacks, books, apples and more, this engaging resource invites learners to solve problems like 3 + 2, 5 + 3 and 6 + 4 as they move across the board. Players roll the die, follow the path and draw cards to practise adding 2, 3, 4 or 5, building fluency and confidence with every turn. Perfect for guided groups, early finishers, or at-home practise, this low-prep game brings learning to life in a fun and familiar setting.

This counting on game includes:

  • Game board
  • Game pieces

  • Answer key

Using Our Count On Addition Game

Preparing and playing this count on addition game is easy. Here’s how!

Preparation

  1. Download the counting on game in your preferred file format.
  2. Print the game board, playing cards, answer key, game tokens and number cube. For best results, use cardboard to enhance durability.
  3. Cut out the cards and game pieces, then assemble the number cube.

Game Instructions

  1. Each player places their token on the ‘Start’ space. Shuffle the cards and place them on the ‘Draw Pile’ area.
  2. Player 1 rolls the number cube and advances their token by the number shown.
  3. The player follows the instructions on the space where the token lands.
  4. If the space has a picture, the player draws a card and solves the maths problem using the ‘counting on’ strategy. A correct answer means they stay on the space; an incorrect answer sends them back to where they were.
  5. Players take turns. The first player to reach the ‘Finish’ space wins the game!
