Figurative Language + Grandparents’ Day = Fun!

With Grandparents’ Day fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to let your students unleash their inner artists and spread some love. Imagine those tiny hands eagerly crafting colourful cards, adorable origami and charming crafts, all overflowing with affection for their cherished grandparents. 

This printable Grandparents’ Day craft pulls double duty as a curriculum integration and a craft activity! Using their knowledge of figurative language (specifically similes), students will create a fun Grandparents’ Day Simile spinner to showcase their amazing grandparents through simile statements.

Create and Assemble Your Grandparents’ Day Craft / Simile Activity

Print a Grandparents’ Day Spinner for each student and have the students complete the simile statement in each section of the template. They will complete statements such as 

• My grandparents are as warm as…
• My grandparents are as wise as…
• My grandparents are as patient as…
• And more!

Have them colour and cut out both pieces of the spinner, then poke a small hole through the centre of each circle. Layer the two pieces together, with the wedge piece on top and secure the two pieces together with a split pin. Now each time the spinner moves, grandma or grandpa will get a special simile message from their student!
