A Hands-On Index Notation Worksheet

Bring excitement to learning exponents with this interactive index notation worksheet! Students will cut, match and glue puzzle pieces featuring index notation. This hands-on activity provides a fun way for students to practise simplifying exponential expressions, making abstract concepts more tangible. It’s a great tool for reinforcing exponent rules while keeping your class actively engaged.

This index notation worksheet set includes three pages:

  • Index notation puzzle pieces
  • Puzzle template
  • Answer key

Using This Exponents Activity in the Classroom

This exponents activity is perfect as independent practice, a homework assignment, or a maths station activity. Here is how students will complete this index notation worksheet:

  1. Provide students with scissors, glue, the puzzle pieces page and the template page.
  2. Students will cut the puzzle pieces apart and assemble them on the template page. The goal is to assemble the small triangles so that every side has an expression equivalent to the side next to it.
  3. When the puzzle is complete, students will glue the pieces down onto the template.
  4. If desired, students can consult the answer key before gluing.
