Digital Phonics Instruction for L-Blends

Do you have students that are struggling with ‘l’ blends (sl, gl, pl, bl, cl, fl)? We have the resource for you!

This interactive activity is an engaging, fun way to practise using the correct initial l-blends (sl, gl, pl, bl, cl, fl) to spell different words. Students are given an image stimulus and must drag and drop the correct initial l-blend to build the word. Then students will type the word as well.

The resource contains 10 activity slides, with two words to be completed on each slide.

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through guided literacy groups, whole-class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above- and below-level learners, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts.

🆘 Support Struggling Students

• Allow students to reference a sound wall or classroom poster to assist with identifying the sounds of the different blends.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

• Encourage fast finishers to write sentences with the blends, or identify other words that contain the same initial l-blend.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

• Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or on mini whiteboards.
