Is It a Line of Symmetry?
Yes or no? This 3-page worksheet set requires students to view a variety of shapes with pre-drawn segmentation lines, and record whether the shape has a line of symmetry (is symmetrical) or not!
Students simply write ‘yes’ or ‘no’ below each shape shown. Questions become more difficult as the series of worksheets continues.
An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
This activity encourages students to recognise a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts, and therefore identify line-symmetric figures.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
In addition to individual student work time, use this worksheet as a:
- Maths or guided group
- lesson exit ticket
- fast finisher activity
- homework assignment
- whole-class review (via smartboard)
For fast finishers, or students working above-level, set an extra challenge for them to draw in the correct line of symmetry using a coloured pencil, where one exists but has been incorrectly marked.
For students who need extra support, use the editable (Google Slides) version to remove the shapes that do not have a line of symmetry, and ask them to trace the correct line of symmetry.

Turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity by printing on cardboard and slipping it into a write-and-wipe sleeve. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse.
Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
