Turn a movie day into a learning experience with our Classroom Movie Grid Story Element Review Choice Board.
Watch and Learn With a Movie Grid! Story Element Review
We’ve all been there, and we know it’s true. When you get down to those last couple of weeks before the end of the year, sometimes you absolutely need to throw on a movie and get down to catching up on all there is to do. But how can you make sure your students are still learning? And how can you make your lesson plans show that movie-watching can be instructional?
We’ve got you covered with our printable Movie Grid Comprehension Menu! This printable movie grid film review activity takes all the literacy skills you’ve been learning, condenses them into a grid, and applies them to movies!
You Can Teach With Movies!
You can teach with movies! Using movies in your classroom is a fun and powerful way to help your students review story elements. When you watch a film together, your students can see the characters, setting, plot, conflict, and theme unfold right in front of them — which makes these abstract concepts easier to understand. You might stop at key moments to talk about the rising action, climax, or resolution, or have students compare the movie’s structure to a book you’ve read in class. Movies also open the door to deeper discussions about dialogue, tone, and character motivation. Plus, your students will love that you blend learning with something they already enjoy.
While watching any plot-based film for kids, students will review the following concepts with this movie review activity grid.
- Character
- Setting
- Problem and Solution
- Genre
- Resolution
- And more!
We’ve created three versions of our Movie Day menu for different year levels and student ability levels. They are discreetly marked with stars to indicate the reading level.
