Perform the experiments in our predicting probability activity set to give your students practice conducting experiments, predicting outcomes and reflecting on the results.
A Fun and Versatile Probability Activity Set
Engage your students in hands-on learning with our Predicting Probability Activity Set — a fun and interactive way to explore probability through real-life experimentation. This three-activity pack encourages students to make predictions, collect data and analyse outcomes with three different activities. Each experiment builds critical thinking and data literacy skills while fostering a deeper understanding of probability concepts. Reflection questions and a graphing component help reinforce learning and promote meaningful classroom discussions.
This predicting probability activity set includes:
- Coin Flip Challenge – Predict and record the results of flipping a coin 30 times.
- Dice Roll Experiment – Predict and roll a die 60 times to track how many sixes appear, then create a bar graph of the results.
- Spinner Simulation – Design and spin three different spinners 20 times each, predicting and tracking how often red appears.
A perfect blend of prediction, experimentation and analysis, this set is ideal for bringing probability to life in your classroom!
Using These Chance and Data Activities in the Classroom
This set of chance and data activities is low-prep and high engagement! Here is all you need to use them in your classroom:
Prepare
- Download the resource in the format that works best for you.
- Provide each student with a copy of the activity or activities of your choice.
- Give students access to coins, pencils, large paperclips and dice.
Instructions
- Choose a probability activity and explain the experiment to your students.
- Ask them to predict what they think will happen, recording their results on the worksheet.
- Students conduct the experiment, recording their results.
- Ask students to reflect on their results, writing their thoughts on their worksheet.
- Discuss the results as a class, highlighting any interesting results or student reflections.
These activities also work well as maths station offerings. Simply provide students the materials, allow them to choose the activity and off they go!
