Move and Measure With Informal Units = Scientific Fun!

Bring hands-on learning into your classroom with this exciting Roll and Measure Science Experiment! Designed for students from Foundation through Year 2, this investigation enables young learners to explore motion, force, and distance while developing their science inquiry skills. In this science exploration, your little scientists will make predictions, test objects rolling down ramps, and measure their travel distance using informal units such as hands, snap cubes, or paper clips.

This activity is perfect for introducing early measurement concepts, encouraging observation, and combining maths with science.

Roll and Measure Science Experiment for F-2 Students

In this experiment, students will:

  1. Predict and record how far each object will roll down a ramp.
  2. Test each object and measure the distance using informal units of measurement.
  3. Record observations in a data sheet.
  4. Compare predictions with actual results and discuss what they learned.

The experiment pack includes teacher instructions, a materials list, a prediction sheet, an observation sheet, and a learning summary page to guide students in writing and thinking about what they learned.
