Skip Count and Make a Match! Multiplication Card Game

Teach your students the correlation between skip counting and multiplication using this fun and colourful card game! Students will make the connection between lists of skip counting series, and a matching multiplication equation or fact.

Included in this slide deck are:

  • 36 game cards (12 matching sets of 3)
  • Title page with directions
  • Student recording sheet
  • Answer key.

How to Play:

To use this resource in the classroom, students will start with a multiplication expression and determine which two lists show the correct ways to skip count to solve the expression. They can record the letters on the list cards using the recording sheet. Teachers can check work using the provided key.

Through this activity, students will show, recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition sequences.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your maths lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or homework assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Provide a skip counting list or multiplication chart as a reference.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

As an extension, ask students to make more matching sets to add to the 12 matches already found. Challenge students to create lists for higher numbers, such as 12 × 6.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Simply print the file, cut apart the cards, and mix them up. Store cards in a plastic folder for longevity and future use.

Alternatively, print slides to use them for your:

  • Maths lessons
  • Lesson warm-ups
  • End-of-the-day wrap-ups
  • Fast finisher activities
  • Homework assignments
