Stop, Start, & Change: Force & Motion Worksheets

Give your Year 4 students a clear, engaging introduction to how forces affect motion with this set of Stop, Start, Change: Force & Motion Worksheets. Designed for learners exploring push and pull forces, friction, and gravity, these activities help students recognise how pushes, pulls, and other forces can make objects start moving, stop moving, or change the way they move.

Each of these force and motion worksheets provides students with multiple opportunities to explain their thinking about how different forces can stop, start, or change an object’s motion.

Recognise How Forces Affect Motion

Across the two worksheets, students will:

  • Identify which type of movement is occurring (Stop, Start, or Change)
  • Identify the type of force present – push, pull, magnetism, gravity, friction
  • Explain their reasoning using early force vocabulary such as push, pull, slow down, speed up, and change direction

Each question includes a short scenario paired with an image or description, such as:

  • A soccer ball at rest is kicked across the field
  • A rolling ball hits a carpet patch
  • A rolling toy car is bumped gently by another car

Students read, think, and choose the correct motion effect, then justify their answer in simple terms.
