The Emotion Demotion - Silent Desk Indicator

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF, Word | 1 page | Years: F - 6

A silent desk indicator for students to use to communicate to their teacher about how they are feeling without having to communicate verbally.

This teaching resource is a discreet way for students to share how they are feeling. Each student character in the Emotion Demotion series are very good at expressing their emotions. With the Emotion Demotion posters, students can identify where they are feeling and use strategies that are discussed between teacher and student on how to cope and rectify those emotion types so that students can get back to being motivated with the Cool Crew.

How to use this resource:

  1. Download and print the character and blank template.
  2. Customise which 6 emotions match your student. This can also be done with your student to help them relate to their feelings.
  3. Cut out the emotions wedges that are needed and glue them onto the blank template.
  4. Cut out and laminate the desk indicator and the arrow template.
  5. Use a brass fastener to connect the arrow to the centre of your desk indicator.
  6. Give to your student to place on their desk.

Best used after the class poster is used in a class brainstorm to collectively come up with strategies, or if on a more discreet basis, conference with the student about the strategies that will work well for them and their behaviour and your class routine.

Hi Mary, the templates can be found as one of the download options. Simply click on the green dropdown arrow attached to the right of the download button, and choose from either a colour or black and white version in your preferred file format. If I can help further please feel free to get in touch.

It would be great if these aligned with the Zones of Regulation - Yellow, Blue, Green and Red

Hey Esme, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, Zones of Regulation is a trademarked resource and we are unable to align to its features. The Emotion Demotion does have a similar purpose though. If there is anything else that I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi Kellie, thank you for checking in with us. The coloured wheels are there to be cut out and the blank wheels are to paste the wedges into. As each student will have different triggers and challenges, these wedges allow you to really cater for each individual student. If you need more assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
