Sequencing Events and Time Concepts Made Simple

Understanding sequencing events helps young learners make sense of their daily routines and the world around them. From identifying what happens first, next and last to understanding the order of the days of the week, sequencing skills are an important foundation for time concepts and chronological thinking.

This teaching presentation introduces students to the parts of the day, including morning, lunchtime, afternoon and night, before exploring order words such as first, next, before and after. Students then apply these skills by ordering daily routines, exploring story sequences and practising the days of the week.

With discussion prompts, review activities and opportunities for students to share their thinking, these slides make it easy to introduce and reinforce key concepts while keeping students actively engaged.

Creative Ways to Use These Teaching Units of Time Slides

This resource can be used in a variety of engaging ways:

• Days of the Week Practice – Use the slides as a daily warm-up to review the order of the week and discuss yesterday, today and tomorrow.
• Sequencing Daily Events Discussions – Invite students to compare the routines shown in the presentation with their own daily schedules using sequence vocabulary.
• Story Sequence Acting – Have students act out the story events from the slides and work together to place them in the correct order.
