Multiplication and Division Activities for Year 3

Understanding multiplication and division involves more than simply calculating answers. Students need opportunities to represent problems in different ways, connect mathematical models to real-world situations and explain their thinking using multiple strategies.

This engaging worksheet pack provides students with a variety of opportunities to explore multiplication and division word problem concepts through hands-on and creative activities. Students match word problems to number sentences, complete sorting tasks, represent problems using a Think Board, and create their own multiplication and division word problems for classmates to solve.

Designed to support mathematical reasoning and problem-solving, the activities encourage students to recognise when multiplication or division is needed and represent their thinking using equations, diagrams, arrays and written explanations. Answer keys are included to support quick and easy marking.

Flexible Ways to Use These Multiplication and Division Worksheets

This resource can be used in a variety of classroom settings:

  • Think Board Workshops – Use the Think Board template to help students represent multiplication and division problems with number sentences, arrays, pictures and word problems.
  • Create-and-Swap Challenges – Have students write their own multiplication or division word problems, then swap with a partner to solve and discuss.
