Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Substitute Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarize yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Grammar
Display the A or An? – Poster on the board and read through the examples as a class. Jointly construct ‘a’ and ‘an’ sentences. Distribute a copy of the A or An? – Worksheets to the students. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the worksheet. Once the students have finished, discuss the answers as a class.
Literacy – Comprehension
Read the story of Little Red Riding Hood to the class, then discuss the characters and events that took place in the story. As a class, create a character profile (appearance, feelings, actions, personality) for the Big Bad Wolf using the template from the Little Red Riding Hood Character Profile Worksheets as a guide. Provide the students with a copy of the character profile template for Little Red Riding Hood. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the character profile. Once they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their ideas with the class.
Numeracy – Shape
Provide each student with a game board from the 2D Shape Bingo. Pick a shape card from the pile and call out the name of the shape. Students put a marker over the corresponding answer if they have it on their game board. When the students have covered three squares in a row, they call out ‘Bingo!’. The first person to call out is the winner.
Numeracy – Shape
Demonstrate on the board how to draw rectangles, triangles, squares and circles. Provide the students with a copy of the Drawing 2D Shapes Worksheet. Monitor and support the students as they complete the worksheet independently. Once the students have finished, discuss the answers as a class. If time permits, call out different 2D shapes to the class. In small groups, allow the students to work together to make the shape with their bodies.
Literacy – Shared Reading
Choose a picture book to read and share with the students.
Health/P.E. – Physical Education
Choose one of the activities from the Pack of Fun- Quick Fitness Games. Create space inside the classroom, or go outside to the playground to play the game. If time permits, choose multiple games to play.
