Texas – 3rd Grade Heroes Activities

If your a Texan teacher, and in a third grade classroom, we’re excited you are here! We’ve been building the Social Studies resource library, starting with the TEKS standards for 3rd grade social studies.

This printable is designed to help young learners master the following Social Studies curriculum standards:

TEKS Grade 3 Social Studies (14) 

Culture. The student understands the role of heroes in shaping the culture of communities, the state, and the nation. The student is expected to:
(A) identify and compare the heroic deeds of state and national heroes, including Hector P. Garcia and James A. Lovell, and other individuals such as Harriet Tubman, Juliette Gordon Low, Todd Beamer, Ellen Ochoa, John “Danny” Olivas, and other contemporary heroes; and
(B) identify and analyze the heroic deeds of individuals, including military and first responders such as the Four Chaplains.

Discover Famous Americans in History

Through this activity, students will cut, sort, and paste fun facts about:

  • Hector P. Garcia – Founder of the American GI Forum
  • James A. Lovell – Astronaut on Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 missions
  • Harriet Tubman – Renowned abolitionist and Underground Railroad conductor
  • Juliette Gordon Lowe – Founder of the Girl Scouts of America
  • Todd Beamer – 9/11 Hero killed on Flight 93.
  • Ellen Ochoa – Female astronaut who became the director of the Johnson Space Center
  • John Olivas – Astronaut with two missions to the space station
  • Four Chaplains – Group who saved many lives when the US Dorcester sank.
