Help students understand different types of simple fractions in shapes with this set of unit fraction worksheets.

Halves, Thirds, Fourths and Eighths

This set of worksheets has been created by a teacher to help students practice their understanding of halves, thirds, fourths and eighths as they begin their journey to understanding unit fractions.

Understanding halves, thirds, fourths, and eighths is fundamental for young children as it introduces them to the basic concept of fractions and their relationship to the whole. Through visual representations and real-life applications, children learn that fractions represent equal parts of a whole, paving the way for comprehension of more complex fraction concepts and operations. Mastering these unit fractions provides the building blocks for developing strong mathematical skills, preparing children for success in higher-level mathematics and practical problem-solving scenarios. Overall, a solid understanding of halves, thirds, fourths, and eighths is crucial for laying the foundation for mathematical proficiency and critical thinking skills in young learners.

How to Use these Fraction Worksheets in the Classroom

This set of three worksheets includes the following fraction images:

  • Worksheet 1 – Halves and Fourths
  • Worksheet 2 – Halves, Thirds and Fourths
  • Worksheet 3 – Halves, Thirds, Fourths and Eighths

By dividing the worksheets into this slightly progressively harder schedule – you can easily differentiate the worksheets to suit the needs of your students. You can use this as a simple worksheet, alternatively, why not print it on a larger sheet and display it in the classroom – as students enter the classroom get them to pick a fraction to color. This is a great check in point and a fun way for students to show their knowledge.
