What Is Cloze Reading and Why Is It So Effective?

Cloze reading tasks are literacy activities in which students read a passage with missing words and use clues from the surrounding text to determine the correct answers. By encouraging students to think about context, grammar, vocabulary and meaning simultaneously, these activities develop essential reading comprehension skills that support success across all learning areas.

This resource features a set of eight cloze activities on a variety of curriculum-relevant topics, each accompanied by a word bank to support learners as they complete the texts. The passages can be used for independent work, literacy rotations, early finisher tasks, homework, intervention groups or whole-class instruction.
