What Is Character Education?

Character education teaches children important values and virtues such as responsibility, respect, honesty, integrity, empathy, forgiveness, and compassion. It aims to promote positive character traits and good citizenship by providing students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become ethical, responsible, and compassionate individuals.

Forgiveness in the Classroom

Do your students sometimes have a hard time forgiving others? Are there times when some of your students don’t want to play with their friends because of something they did? This social skill can be tricky to overcome as students learn appropriate ways to respond when things don’t go exactly as planned.

Teach Starter has developed an activity pack to help your students recognize appropriate ways to forgive others. This important skill will help your students maintain healthy relationships and give them the necessary social skills that are needed later in life.

This downloadable resource includes 4 different resources you can use when discussing proper ways to forgive and apologize.

  • Forging Friends Poster
  • Forgiving Friends Worksheet
  • 12 sorting cards
  • 12 discussion Cards

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your social emotional learning lessons.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

For students who need additional support, allow someone to read the directions and task cards to them. Students can also work with a peer or one-on-one with a teacher. Allow students to write one word instead of a full sentence and respond to the prompt with a drawing.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Allow students to work on this in centers with partners or small groups. Students can then share their responses as a whole class and engage in discussions.
