What Do I Do If..? Classroom Routines to Teach Your Students

Creating explicit classroom routines is absolutely crucial for our students! By establishing a solid structure, we provide a predictable and secure environment that fosters success. When teachers establish clear expectations and procedures, our students are empowered to tackle different activities and transitions throughout the day with confidence. These routines minimize disruptions and distractions, allowing students to fully focus on learning and achieving their goals

Give Your Students a Checklist of Classroom Procedures to Follow

This checklist will guide your students through a routine when they have independent work to complete.

Sections on the checklist include:

  • When I Get Started
  • When I Need Help
  • When Others Are Nearby
  • When I’m Stuck
  • When I Think I’m Done.

Print off a set of checklists on cardstock, cut them out, and provide one for each student to use with a dry erase marker. This will allow the checklist to be wiped clean and used over and over.
