How to Make the Most of Your Learning Objectives Focus Board

  1. Print the poster on standard letter paper and display it in your classroom for students to reference when doing independent work.
  2. Print the poster on cardstock, slip it into a clear sleeve, and use it in your guided groups as a reminder.
  3. Enlarge the posters using your printer’s scale settings, and display them on your board or classroom bulletin board.

How to Write Learning Objectives – (SWBAT) Meaning

It’s important to understand what a learning objective is. A learning objective is what the classroom teacher wants the children to learn or achieve at the end of the lesson. Sometimes, teachers call this SWBAT (Students Will Be Able To, or “I Can Statement”. ) The learning objective for your lesson must be measurable. To make this easier, start your objective with… ‘Students will be able to….’

Here’s an example of a learning objective:

Students will be able to identify four 3D objects and their properties.

A good learning objective should identify an audience, give a measurable behavior and describe the circumstance.
