Parts of a Plant Sorting Activity for Little Learners

Help little learners build early science understanding as they observe, sort, and classify familiar fruits and vegetables based on the part of the plant they come from. This hands-on sorting activity supports early science skills while introducing students to the different parts of a plant and their uses.

This printable sorting activity is perfect for use in K-2 classrooms learning about plants and plant features.

Sort It Out! Parts of a Plant Cards

In this activity, students carefully examine picture cards showing common plants, fruits, and vegetables and decide which plant part each represents.

Students sort each card into one of six categories:

  • Roots
  • Stems
  • Leaves
  • Flowers
  • Fruits
  • Seeds

This download includes:

  • Picture sorting cards featuring clear, real-world images of plant parts
  • Six plant-part category headers for sorting

This simple sorting task encourages observation, discussion, and the use of scientific vocabulary in an easy, age-appropriate format.

These printable Parts of a Plant Cards can be laminated for durability and reused throughout the year as students build confidence with plant concepts.
