Teach the Facts About the Civil Rights Movement and School Segregation

Through this activity, students will organize the significant events of the Civil Rights Movement. Beginning with the initial events and signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, this timeline worksheet takes students through the Jim Crow era, Montgomery Bus Boycotts, the March on Washington, and more…all the way through to the end of segregation and signing of the Voting Rights act of 1965.

In this slide deck, your students will travel the timeline of the civil rights movement to see the events and people that contributed to changing our constitution. They’ll meet key figures like Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, and Ruby Bridges. They’ll discover the truth behind one of the most difficult—but successful—eras of change in U.S. history!

Students will travel through time from 1877-1956, learning about these events and the people who made them happen. They will learn about how Jim Crow laws were created and what life was like for African Americans during this time.
