Making Science Predictions Made Easy!

Introduce your students to the exciting world of the scientific method with this set of Printable Science Prediction Task Cards for elementary learners!

Perfect for the beginning of the year, this resource helps students practice making valid predictions based on simple, hands-on scientific scenarios.

These task cards encourage students to think critically, reason, and build confidence in their ability to make scientific predictions.

Science Prediction Task Cards for Elementary Students

This set includes 24 task cards, each featuring a short scientific scenario that students can understand and predict without extensive prior knowledge. Examples of scenarios include:

  • “If I tap a wooden ruler lightly on a desk, will it make a loud sound or a soft sound?”
  • “If I plant two seeds in soil, one gets sunlight, and one stays in a dark box, what will happen?”

Students read the scenario, think about what will likely happen, and record their prediction.

This resource can be used with both early learners and older learners! Here are a couple of ideas for using these task cards with different age groups.

  • K-1st grade – Choose a card and read aloud the prompt as a daily science discussion starter. Have students discuss, write, or draw their prediction.
  • 2nd-3rd Grade – Choose a card and project or display it for students to read and respond to. Use the cards and recording sheet as an introductory science lesson, or separate the cards and use them as daily discussion or writing prompts.

These cards are versatile for classroom use and can be used for small-group work, whole-group discussions, morning warm-ups, or as a movement-based introduction to the scientific method.
