Why Bring Yoga Into the Classroom?
Teaching yoga in the classroom offers so many benefits. Not only does it provide a valuable sensory or movement break, but it can also be especially helpful for students who struggle with concentration or experience anxiety. Many of the benefits of yoga for children mirror those of mindfulness, making it a fantastic addition to any classroom wellbeing toolkit. While yoga is often thought of as a quiet, inward-focused practice, it’s important to remember that for students who are new to yoga, sessions should be engaging and enjoyable.

There are plenty of simple ways to add fun and energy to your yoga sessions using this resource. For example, provide small groups with a set of yoga pose cards and have students take turns teaching a pose to their group. You could also attach the cards to the sides of a large die and invite students to roll it, then lead the class in the pose that appears.
