Library Lovers' Day 2025 Teaching Resources
Mark Library Lovers' Day 2025 in your classroom with kids' activities, library-themed printables, school library decorations and more teaching resources to honour the best place to get hooked on a book! Created by Australian teachers for teachers like you, this collection of resources is designed to celebrate the love of reading and the library.
Falling in the same month as Valentine's Day, this day is a good way for Aussie teachers and teacher librarians to celebrate the day of love with our students in a kid-friendly way.
Curious about this event and how to mark it in your classroom? Read on for a guide from the Teach Starter teacher team, including when to celebrate Library Lovers' Day and how it is organised.
What Is Library Lovers' Day?
The name says it all, doesn't it? Library Lovers' Day is a day to honour libraries, librarians and all of the books inside the library.
This event was started by the State Library of New South Wales, in 2006, and the day became a national holiday in 2007 when the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) joined the campaign. The ALIA is now responsible for organising the day each year.
Library Lovers' Day is now a special day for bookworms and book lovers of all types to thank the libraries who give them access to their favourite picture books, novels and non-fiction too.
To celebrate Library Lovers' Day, teachers can introduce students to their school library or teacher librarian, educate students on what makes libraries special and explore the library together.
When Is Library Lovers' Day 2025?
Library Lovers' Day will be held on 14 February, the same day as Valentine's Day! This will be a Friday in 2025.
