Area and Perimeter Paddock Problems – Worksheets

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 7 pages | Years: 5 - 6

A set of differentiated area and perimeter worksheets.

Use these worksheets when working on finding the area and perimeter of shapes using familiar metric units.

Area and Perimeter Worksheets Based in the Real World

Providing students with a real-world application of maths concepts can help motivate learning.

These area and perimeter worksheets task students with finding:

  • the perimeter of each paddock (the amount of fence needed) 🚜
  • the area of each paddock (the amount of seeds needed). 🌾

Perimeter and Area of Irregular Shapes

There are two versions of this worksheet included in the download. One uses regular shapes, i.e. squares and rectangles, and the other uses irregular shapes.

Choose the most appropriate version of the worksheet to give to each student. The pages can be distinguished from one another by the small shape in the top right corner.

  • Circle version:
    • find the perimeter of squares and rectangles
    • determine the area of these shapes.
  • Square version:
    • find the perimeter of irregular shapes
    • use efficient strategies to determine the area of shapes.

Farm Financial Plan

Also included with this resource is an extension page that can be used with either worksheet.

This Fence and Seed additional task has students creating a financial plan to determine the cost of fencing and seeding the paddocks on the farm.

Students should be able to multiply four-digit numbers by single digits to complete this page successfully.

Answer sheets for both differentiated versions of the worksheet and the Fence and Seed worksheet are included in the resource.

A lovely resource. It is not mere 2D shapes. Looking forward to giving it to my students. Thank you.
