Build Strong Author‑purpose Skills – Audience Swap Challenge Game
Each card presents a simple statement like “Drinking milk helps make your bones strong” or “Return books on time so others can read them” and challenges students to rewrite it for a completely different audience or purpose.
Students learn that changing the audience changes the language, tone and intent of the writing. Whether they’re turning a safety rule into a silly rhyme, rewriting healthy habits as a cartoon script, or transforming everyday advice into a persuasive ad, learners build a deep understanding of author’s purpose and how writers shape meaning for different readers.
Why This Resource Builds Author’s Purpose Skills
This game helps students recognise and apply the three major writing purposes:
- To inform — e.g., “Brushing your teeth twice a day keeps your teeth strong.”
- To persuade — e.g., rewriting it as a message for parents.
- To entertain — e.g., turning it into a silly rhyme or cartoon line.
Students learn how writers choose words and structure ideas depending on who will read the text and why it’s being written. The variety of prompts — from safety rules to healthy habits, kindness, recycling, bedtime, helmets, sharing and more — keeps the activity engaging and meaningful.
